Competition Structure: A Global Stage for Innovation

EBTDC consists of three stages

Stage One: Team Formation and Documentation

- Teams, consisting of up to 10 members, must submit their designs and required documentation. Submissions should be sent via the team captain or the institutional mentor’s official email. The documentation includes participants' legal and preferred names, team leader designation, and a design concept in any preferred format (drawing, blueprint, Word document, etc. – we don’t restrict our students about the format). While prototypes are not required at this stage, teams that choose to submit one may do so again in the second stage.

- This stage serves as the entry phase, and all submissions move forward to Stage Two.

- Teams submit their final prototypes, accompanied by a detailed video demonstrating the product’s functionality and an advertising video showcasing the product’s impact and potential. A country-based elimination follows, where up to five teams per country are selected to advance to the global finals.

- The final stage is an exciting face-to-face competition, held in a different country each year. In 2022, the finals took place in Turkey, followed by Germany in 2023, and this year’s competition will be hosted in Italy. The team captain must lead the final presentation, after which prototypes are closely evaluated by the jury. Winners are chosen at the end of the day and awarded prestigious prizes.

- The two-day final includes an orientation on the first day, offering students a chance to connect with peers from around the world. Meals and refreshments are provided, but participants are also welcome to explore local dining options. On the second day, the competition heats up with presentations, prototype examinations, and the award ceremony, followed by a social event- which is optional, but we highly recommend you join! Most our students connect and network thanks to our socials.

For teams requring financial assistance, EBTDC offers travel support for two team members, including the team captain, to attend the finals. Accommodation, meals, and return flights are covered, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to participate in this life-changing event, regardless of financial background.

EBTDC is more than just a competition—it’s an opportunity to inspire the next generation of biotechnologists, provide unparalleled exposure to the biotechnology industry, and foster a global community of young innovators who will shape the future. With mentorship from industry leaders, cutting-edge projects, and a thrilling international competition, EBTDC is the ultimate launchpad for students ready to make an impact.
